GR-414

Achtung!

GR-414

The GR-414 (equivalent to the CD47 and GR-411) from the Japanese manufacturer Rodan has a digit height of 135mm, probably making her the largest Nixie tube of the world - single prices are above 450€ (March '08), and even if you are prepared to pay this amount of money you rarely will find one for sale. It took me over two years to be able to add this tube to my collection.

The GR-414 is over 200mm tall, but is surprisingly light (consists practically just of thin glass, neon and a little aluminum); the appearance is impressive nevertheless:

The base contours are a little scraped off:

A newer GR-414 does not show these signs of wear:

And finally, here are the glowing digits of the GR-414:

The internal construction of the GR-414 apperas rather fragile: the wires leave the glass bulb through a thin glass nozzle, who are then connected to the aluminum base that the glass bulb is glued in. A minor vibration could lead to a critical brak of the nozzle:

But you should be very careful with such a valuable tube anyway. Finally a little impression of a glowing digit: the anode mesh and the digits themselves are a fantastic geometric construction:

And finally a little picture puzzle: Which name is hidden in the following picture?

Unfortunately, I do not have any datasheet for the GR-414. If someone can provide me with a datasheet, please email me.

Attention! Of course I am interested in other GR-414 / GR-411 / CD47 Nixie tubes, but also in the respective special symbol Nixie tube GR-1620 (kg, t). I would be glad if you dropped me an email. Attention!
